An early morning fire erupted at Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport, causing disruptions to Hajj flights on Thursday.
Preliminary reports indicate that the fire damaged a section of the immigration system, resulting in the suspension of immigration procedures and the evacuation of passengers from the lounge due to smoke presence.
Emergency responders, including firefighters and Rescue 1122, were swiftly deployed to contain the fire. However, the cause of the blaze is yet to be determined.
This incident brings to mind a similar occurrence in 2022 when a fire broke out at Multan International Airport, attributed to a short circuit in the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) immigration staff room. Consequently, international departure and arrival lounges were evacuated for safety measures.
