According to Bloomberg, the Chinese government is reportedly considering a proposal that could allow Elon Musk to take over TikTok’s U.S. operations. This plan is being explored as a way to prevent the app from being banned in the United States.
The situation arises as the U.S. Supreme Court reviews a law that might require ByteDance, TikTok’s parent company, to sell off its U.S. business by January 19, 2025. Concerns over national security due to TikTok’s Chinese ownership have been a key issue driving this potential decision.
If the plan moves forward, Elon Musk would oversee both TikTok’s U.S. operations and X, his social media platform formerly known as Twitter. However, the discussions are still in the early stages, and neither Musk nor TikTok has confirmed any involvement in the matter.
The U.S. government’s concerns revolve around the possibility of user data being accessed by Chinese authorities, which has led to heightened scrutiny of TikTok’s ownership and operations.
