The Punjab Assembly has unanimously passed a resolution condemning the prolonged electricity load shedding being experienced across different parts of the province.
The resolution, presented by government member Ahsan Raza, expressed serious concern over the continued power outages and the difficulties being faced by residents amid the ongoing electricity crisis.
The resolution also raised questions over what lawmakers described as unequal relief in electricity bills, calling attention to concerns among consumers regarding the impact of high power costs alongside frequent outages.
During the assembly session, opposition member Rashid Tufail also raised a quorum issue, adding another point of discussion to the proceedings.
Meanwhile, electricity shortages have intensified in Lahore and several other areas of Punjab. Residents have reported repeated power cuts, with some outages lasting around an hour at a time, disrupting daily routines, businesses and household activities.
Sources said the power shortfall faced by the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has crossed 1,200 megawatts, while the overall national electricity shortfall has reportedly exceeded 4,000 megawatts.
Officials have attributed the worsening situation to reduced generation from several power plants, along with delays in the supply of re-gasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG).
The combination of lower generation and supply constraints has placed additional pressure on the national power system.
With temperatures remaining high across much of Punjab, prolonged load shedding has added to public frustration.
Residents have continued to demand reliable electricity supplies and greater transparency regarding the reasons behind the extended outages, while lawmakers have called for urgent measures to address the crisis and provide relief to affected consumers.
