Fakhar Zaman, Khushdil Shah, Faheem Ashraf, and Saud Shakeel have been included in Pakistan’s squad for the ICC Champions Trophy.
Fakhar is making a comeback after a disagreement with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in October 2024 over a social media post. Faheem, who last played international cricket in 2023, has also been recalled. Meanwhile, Khushdil and Saud have been added to strengthen the squad.
Before the Champions Trophy, this team will also take part in an ODI tri-series against South Africa and New Zealand. The series will serve as important preparation for the upcoming tournament.
On the other hand, young batter Saim Ayub will miss out due to an ankle injury. Abdullah Shafique has also been left out of the squad because of his poor form.
Fakhar Zaman is expected to open the innings, possibly alongside Babar Azam or Saud Shakeel. Babar’s recent success as an opener in Test cricket makes him a strong candidate for the role in ODIs as well.
With a mix of experienced players and fresh talent, Pakistan aims to put up a strong performance in the Champions Trophy. The upcoming tri-series will give them a chance to find the best team combination before the major event.
