Lahore to Set Up Machines That Give Cash for Plastic Bottles

The Punjab government has introduced the Green Credit Program to help fight climate change and promote recycling. The project encourages people to take part in eco-friendly actions by rewarding them for recycling plastic waste.

In partnership with a private company, smart recycling machines will be set up in Lahore’s markets and universities. These machines allow users to insert plastic bottles and earn green credits in return. A person can earn up to Rs 1,000 through this program. The collected plastic will then be used to make environment-friendly products like bricks and footpaths.

Lahore alone produces nearly 500 tons of plastic waste every day. Through this program, much of that waste can now be recycled. Additionally, the system will support over 18,000 junkyards in the city through an app-based waste collection system, making the process more efficient and organized.

The initiative also encourages the involvement of young people, women, and local communities, making environmental care a shared responsibility.

This program is a step forward in making Lahore cleaner, greener, and more responsible toward the environment. It aims to not only reduce plastic pollution but also create opportunities for communities to participate in building a sustainable future. With rewards, awareness, and innovation, Punjab hopes to set an example for other regions to follow.
