Pakistan’s proposed Automotive and Auto Parts Manufacturing Policy 2026–31 could make plug-in hybrid electric vehicles more affordable, with buyers potentially saving up to Rs. 18.66 lakh.
The draft proposes reducing the general sales tax on plug-in hybrids from 18% to 9%, with the GWM Tank 500 PHEV expected to receive the largest estimated price reduction.
The proposed tax relief could encourage more people to consider fuel-efficient vehicles and support the adoption of cleaner transportation in Pakistan.
However, the savings remain estimates rather than officially announced price cuts by manufacturers, and they depend on the full tax benefit being passed on to customers.
The policy still requires approval from the prime minister and government following IMF consent, while automakers would not be legally required to transfer the entire reduction to buyers.
