Sindh Govt to Launch 1,000 Electric Buses in Karachi

The Sindh government has officially approved a major new transport project that will bring 1,000 electric buses to the streets of Karachi. This move is part of the “Peoples Green Transport Project,” which aims to improve public transportation in the city while reducing pollution and promoting clean, eco-friendly mobility.

Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah gave the go-ahead to hire transaction advisors who will help move the project forward quickly and smoothly. The plan involves buying the buses in phases, with 600 larger 12-meter buses and 400 smaller 8-meter buses. These will be run under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. In this system, private companies will operate the buses and receive payments based on the number of kilometers the buses travel, over a period of ten years.

To support this large fleet, the government will also build 10 dedicated bus depots across the city. After the 10-year agreement ends, all the buses and depots will become the property of the Sindh government.

In addition to the electric bus plan, the Chief Minister also approved a new digital tool called the e-Cabinet App. This app is designed to make government processes more efficient by reducing paperwork, cutting down on expenses, and allowing cabinet meetings and decisions to be managed digitally.

These steps are part of a broader effort to modernize public transport, reduce air pollution, and bring smart governance to Sindh.
