Alert Issued for Heavy Rains and Flood Situation in Pakistan

Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a countrywide alert for heavy rainfall and possible flooding until July 10. The warning includes the risk of rising water levels in rivers and streams across Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK), and Gilgit-Baltistan.

According to the NDMA, River Chenab might face low-level flooding at points like Marala and Qadirabad. Other rivers, including Kabul, Swat, Chitral, and Hunza, are also expected to see an increase in water flow due to the ongoing and upcoming rains.

The NDMA has advised people living in low-lying or flood-prone areas to be extra careful. Residents are urged to keep important belongings in safe places, prepare emergency kits with essentials like food, water, medicines, and flashlights, and stay informed through weather updates on mobile phones and the NDMA Alert App.

Local authorities have been instructed to stay ready for any emergency and ensure that drainage systems are working properly. Quick action and better coordination are expected from all departments to manage the situation and reduce possible damage.

The NDMA is closely monitoring the weather and river conditions and will provide regular updates to the public. Everyone is advised to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain and to follow safety instructions from local officials.

People’s safety is the top priority, and early preparation can help save lives and property.
