The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has approved a major infrastructure project worth Rs. 1.4 billion to construct a new flyover on Azeempura Road, aiming to reduce traffic congestion and improve road connectivity in the city’s eastern corridor.
According to city officials, the new flyover will link Shahrah-i-Bhutto with Sharae Faisal, two of Karachi’s busiest and most vital roads. Once completed, it will provide a signal-free corridor for daily commuters, especially benefiting those traveling to and from Jinnah International Airport.
The flyover is expected to stretch approximately 500 metres, offering a faster, alternate route to ease the pressure on Shahrah-i-Bhutto, which is currently undergoing development work. The structure will help divert traffic from congested junctions and enhance travel efficiency across the area.
The decision to proceed with the project was finalized in a recent meeting chaired by Mayor Murtaza Wahab, where the PC-1 (Project Cycle-1) document was reviewed and approved. Officials confirmed that the proposal will now be forwarded to the Planning and Development Board for final clearance.
Once approved, construction will begin without delay, and the flyover is expected to be completed within 12 months. The KMC has stated that this development is part of a larger strategy to modernize Karachi’s transport infrastructure and ensure smoother mobility for residents.
Urban planners and transport experts have welcomed the initiative, noting that projects like these are essential to keeping pace with Karachi’s growing population and increasing vehicle numbers. The flyover will not only reduce travel time but also enhance connectivity between residential neighborhoods, commercial zones, and the airport.
The project underscores the city government’s focus on delivering practical solutions to longstanding traffic problems, aiming to create a safer and more efficient road network for the people of Karachi.
