Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi has announced that major projects for Pakistan Railways, including digitalization, modernization, and outsourcing, will be completed within this year.
He confirmed that Faisalabad Railway Station will be upgraded to international standards within the next 45 days, offering improved facilities for passengers.
The minister revealed plans for a $10 billion project to construct an 850-kilometer railway track from Kohat to Mazar-i-Sharif, with an additional 75-kilometer extension to connect Uzbekistan.
This initiative is aimed at boosting regional trade, travel, and economic cooperation. He added that both short-term and long-term projects are being carried out under the prime minister’s vision to modernize railway operations and enhance passenger convenience.
Abbasi also announced that free WiFi services will be introduced at 40 railway stations across Punjab, providing better connectivity for travelers. Additionally, the outsourcing of various railway operations, including trains, rest houses, and other services, is expected to be completed by September 30.
To improve the travel experience, Pakistan Railways has modernized its cleanliness system, ensuring cleaner trains and stations. Special saloon coaches have also been made available for the public at affordable rates, making premium travel more accessible.
The minister emphasized that these steps are part of a broader effort to make Pakistan Railways more efficient, passenger-friendly, and financially sustainable.
With upgraded infrastructure, enhanced services, and stronger regional links, the government hopes to turn Pakistan Railways into a modern and competitive transportation system that meets both domestic and international needs.
