Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has called a special meeting of the School Meal Programme Committee to finalize which milk and biscuit brands will be provided to children in government schools.
This initiative is part of the Chief Minister’s School Nutrition Programme, which is currently being tested in eight districts: Bhakkar, Bahawalnagar, Dera Ghazi Khan, Layyah, Rajanpur, Mianwali, Muzaffargarh, and Rahim Yar Khan.
The main goal of the programme is to improve the health and nutrition of schoolchildren. Every day, over 400,000 students studying in 3,527 schools will receive milk packs.
These daily servings are expected to help students stay healthy, improve concentration in class, and develop better eating habits from an early age.
To make the programme more effective and sustainable, an eco-friendly plan has also been introduced. The empty milk packs will be collected and sent for recycling.
The money earned from recycling will not go to waste—it will be used to fund school development projects, ensuring that schools benefit directly from the process.
Through this step, the Punjab government aims not only to support the health of young students but also to promote environmental responsibility and create a cycle where both children and schools gain long-term.
