Karachi Mayor Warns Green, Red Line Projects May Drag on Until 2035

Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab has expressed serious concern over the ongoing delays in the Green Line and Red Line mass transit projects. He warned that if work continues at the current slow pace, these projects may not even be completed by 2035, leaving citizens without much-needed transport relief.

The mayor pointed out that both projects were started with the promise of improving Karachi’s transportation system and reducing the daily struggles of commuters.

However, the constant delays have not only disappointed the public but also raised important questions about how these projects are being managed and executed.

According to Wahab, such projects are meant to provide citizens with modern, reliable, and affordable transport. Yet, the slow progress shows a lack of seriousness in planning and implementation.

He emphasized that Karachi, being Pakistan’s largest city and economic hub, needs quick and effective solutions to its transport problems. Instead, residents are forced to face daily hardships because of traffic jams, poor public transport facilities, and incomplete infrastructure.

The mayor urged the authorities and stakeholders responsible for the Green Line and Red Line projects to speed up their efforts. He said people cannot wait another decade for transport projects that were announced years ago with high hopes.

Wahab added that the city’s development depends heavily on proper planning and timely completion of such initiatives. Without them, Karachi will continue to suffer, and its residents will remain deprived of the transport system they deserve.
