Here’s Pakistan’s Likely Playing XI for First Test Against South Africa

As anticipation builds for the Pakistan–South Africa Test series, cricket fans are eagerly awaiting the final team announcement for the first Test, set to begin on October 12 at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium. Both sides are scheduled to train later today as preparations enter their final phase.

Sources inside the camp suggest that Pakistan’s management is leaning toward a balanced playing XI featuring two fast bowlers and two spinners, a combination designed to make full use of local conditions. Interim head coach Azhar Mahmood is reportedly satisfied with the team’s overall form and rhythm in the practice sessions.

Left-arm spinner Asif Afridi has particularly caught the selectors’ attention with his consistency and control during the nets. There is growing speculation that he could make his much-awaited Test debut in front of the home crowd.

Among the top-order batters, Abdullah Shafique, Imam-ul-Haq, Shan Masood and captain Babar Azam are expected to form the core of Pakistan’s batting lineup. The middle order could feature Saud Shakeel, Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Ali Agha, offering a blend of stability and stroke play.

For the bowling attack, Shaheen Shah Afridi’s pace and Nauman Ali’s spin are likely to lead the charge, with Sajid Khan and Khurram Shehzad being strong contenders to complete the lineup.

The team management is expected to finalize the XI shortly before the toss. Fans hope that the mix of youth and experience will give Pakistan the edge as they look to start the series strong against a confident South African side.
