The Saudi Ministry of Islamic Affairs has instructed imams across the Kingdom to dedicate this Friday’s sermon to addressing the issues of greed and unfair rent increases.
The directive comes as part of ongoing national efforts, led by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, to make housing more affordable and ensure social justice within the real estate market.
According to the Ministry, imams have been urged to remind people especially landlords of Islamic teachings that strongly discourage exploiting others for personal gain.
The sermons will highlight how unchecked greed and excessive rent demands can cause hardship for families, disrupt social harmony, and contradict the principles of fairness and compassion promoted in Islam.
Officials stated that the initiative aims to raise awareness about moral responsibility in financial dealings and to encourage ethical behavior in housing practices.
The Ministry emphasized that Islam encourages generosity, empathy, and community welfare, urging property owners to consider the struggles of low- and middle-income tenants.
The move aligns with the Kingdom’s broader housing and social welfare reforms under Vision 2030, which aim to expand access to affordable housing and create a more balanced property market.
