Chants of “Pakistan Zindabad” at Airport as PIA’s First Manchester Flight Lands After 5-Year Ban

After a gap of more than five years, PIA has successfully restarted its direct flights from Islamabad to Manchester, marking a major comeback for the national carrier in international travel.

The first flight, operated by a Boeing 777, completed its five-hour journey and landed safely in Manchester, where passengers were welcomed by an emotional crowd chanting “Pakistan Zindabad.”

The historic resumption was formally inaugurated by Federal Minister for Aviation and Defence Khawaja Asif at Islamabad International Airport.

The event was also attended by British High Commissioner Jane Marriott, senior aviation officials and members of the Pakistani community. The launch ceremony symbolized renewed cooperation between Pakistan and the United Kingdom in aviation and travel.

Initially, PIA will operate two weekly flights between Islamabad and Manchester, scheduled for Tuesdays and Saturdays. The airline plans to expand its UK operations further, depending on demand and regulatory approvals.

The flight resumption ends the long suspension that began in July 2020, after concerns were raised about pilot licensing.

Since then, PIA has made significant improvements to meet international safety and operational standards, ensuring compliance with global aviation regulations.

Officials stated that restoring the route will benefit travelers, students, and the Pakistani diaspora living in the UK while also promoting trade, tourism, and cultural exchange between both nations.

The revival of the Manchester route marks a hopeful new chapter for PIA as it works to rebuild confidence and strengthen its global presence.
