Eide arrived in the country on a commercial flight and was seen carrying his own luggage after landing, rather than having a large entourage or staff members handle his belongings. The images quickly circulated on social media and sparked discussion about differences in official protocol and political culture.
The scene prompted comparisons with the highly formal arrangements sometimes seen during the movements of senior politicians and government officials in Pakistan, where larger entourages and extensive protocol are more common.
Former minister Raza Haroon and former minister Fawad Chaudhry also commented on the contrast, drawing attention to the different approaches to public service and official engagements in Norway and Pakistan. The discussion largely focused on the simplicity of Eide’s arrival rather than the formal purpose of his visit.
During his two-day visit to Pakistan, Eide held meetings with senior Pakistani leaders and government officials to discuss bilateral relations as well as regional and international matters. His visit provided an opportunity for both countries to engage on areas of mutual interest and strengthen diplomatic ties.
While the foreign minister’s arrival attracted attention for its informal appearance, his official engagements remained focused on diplomatic discussions and strengthening cooperation between Norway and Pakistan.
