Islamabad’s First Robotic Surgery Successfully Performed at PIMS

Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) has achieved a major milestone in public healthcare by performing its first fully robotic surgery. This is an important moment for Islamabad’s biggest public hospital, as it now joins a small group of medical centres in Pakistan that can offer this advanced and life-changing treatment.

The surgery was done using the modern Toumai Robotic Surgical System, created by Shanghai MicroPort MedBot in China. This new technology helped the surgical team operate with an extremely high level of accuracy and safety. The system allowed doctors to make very small cuts, see the surgical area clearly through a high-definition 3D view, and control special instruments that do not shake and move with great stability.

Dr. Matin Sharif, the director of the robotic surgery team, explained that robotic surgery represents the future of medical treatment. He said that with advanced Chinese technology, complex surgeries are becoming safer, more precise, and easier to manage. He also added that the goal is to bring this technology to major public hospitals across Pakistan so more patients can benefit from modern, high-quality healthcare.
