The government has decided to dig trenches at several key routes connecting Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with Islamabad as authorities prepare security arrangements ahead of planned political protests.
According to the reported plan, trenches will be constructed at important points including the GT Road, Chungi No. 26, Pirwadhai, I.J. Principal Road, Aswal Mor and Kati Pahari. Containers, hurdles and barricades are also expected to be placed along major roads leading towards Islamabad.
The security measures are being introduced as different political groups prepare demonstrations in and around the capital.
These include Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), with JI’s long march already underway.
Authorities are expected to use the arrangements to manage traffic movement and restrict large protest convoys from entering Islamabad.
The measures could also affect normal travel between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Rawalpindi and the federal capital as security preparations continue.
