Pakistan’s petrol price could rise to Rs. 1,000 per litre if a serious fuel shortage develops, Federal Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik said on September 20, 2026. He was speaking to reporters in Lahore amid sharp increases in international oil prices.
The minister said global oil prices have increased by around 80 percent, while the rise in Pakistan has been limited to about 50 percent. He also said the government has been working to control the impact of higher international prices on local consumers.
Pakistan has recently faced strong pressure from rising energy costs linked to the conflict and disruptions in the Gulf region. Reuters reported that the government introduced measures to conserve fuel, including lower fuel allocations for official vehicles and restrictions on some government spending.
The government has also introduced a targeted fuel relief scheme for lower-income consumers. Under the programme, motorcycles and three-wheelers can receive Rs. 100 per litre in relief, while cars up to 800cc are also covered within specified limits.
Pakistan’s petrol price was recently set at Rs. 389.14 per litre for September 19 to 21.
