Elon Musk Donates $100,000,000 Worth Of Tesla Shares To Charities As New Year’s Gift

Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has begun the new year with a major philanthropic gesture, donating nearly $100 million worth of Tesla shares to undisclosed charities on December 30, 2025, according to a U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filing. The donation represents one of the world’s richest man’s strategic year-end charitable contributions.

The Tesla CEO donated 210,699 shares of the electric vehicle maker valued at around $100 million as part of his year-end tax planning. The filing stated these shares were transferred to “certain charities” without revealing specific recipient organizations, maintaining Musk’s pattern of anonymous charitable giving.

The charities receiving the Tesla shares indicated they had no current intention of selling the stock, which means the donation won’t create immediate market pressure on Tesla’s share price. This approach allows charities to benefit from potential future appreciation while Musk secures significant tax deductions.

Despite the impressive dollar amount, the $100 million gift represents just 0.05% of his 12.8% Tesla stake and a minuscule fraction of his estimated $619 billion net worth according to Bloomberg’s Billionaires Index. The donation continues Musk’s pattern of substantial year-end giving, following similar contributions of $112 million in 2024 and billions in previous years.

This isn’t the first time Musk has made such huge charitable contributions, in 2021, he donated about $5.74 billion worth of Tesla stock to his non-profit organization, the Musk Foundation, which supports causes including artificial intelligence development and humanitarian efforts.

The timing of this donation coincides with Tesla preparing to announce its annual vehicle sales figures this week, amid increased competition from Chinese and legacy automakers in the electric vehicle market.
