Jefferson Scholars Foundation Announces Fully Funded National Fellowship for Pakistani Students

The Jefferson Scholars Foundation, a prestigious academic organization affiliated with the University of Virginia, has announced its National Fellowship Program for the 2026–27 academic year, offering a fully funded opportunity for outstanding Ph.D. candidates, including eligible scholars from Pakistan, to advance their research and academic careers in the United States.

The fellowship is designed to support doctoral candidates completing their dissertations in fields such as American politics, public policy, foreign relations, public law, political economy, global affairs, communications, and related social sciences. It seeks applicants with exceptional academic achievement and the potential to contribute innovative insights to policy-relevant scholarship.

Notably, this year’s fellowship cycle is open to international candidates, allowing scholars from Pakistan and other countries to compete alongside domestic applicants. This reflects the Foundation’s commitment to fostering a diverse, interdisciplinary scholarly community.

Selected Fellows receive a generous stipend, typically around $30,000 for the first year, with the possibility of renewal for a second year, along with research funds to support their scholarly activities. Fellows are also paired with senior academic mentors who help cultivate professional networks and facilitate participation in workshops, conferences, and publication development.

Beyond financial support, Fellows engage in the Foundation’s rich intellectual ecosystem, participating in interdisciplinary dialogue, visits to the Foundation’s facilities in Charlottesville, and structured professional development conferences. These experiences prepare candidates for leadership roles in academia, policy institutions, and public discourse.

Applicants are required to submit a detailed project description, research plan, scholarly network proposal, writing sample, curriculum vitae, and two letters of recommendation. Review of applications begins only once all components are received. The deadline for submitting applications is February 2, 2026, with a short extension for recommendation letters until February 9, 2026.

Academic observers note that the inclusion of international candidates in this prestigious fellowship enhances global scholarly exchange and provides a platform for emerging leaders from countries like Pakistan to contribute to research addressing contemporary policy challenges.

As competition for fully funded academic opportunities intensifies worldwide, the Jefferson Scholars National Fellowship stands out as a significant gateway for promising Pakistani Ph.D. scholars seeking to join top-tier academic networks and accelerate their research impact on the global stage
