A passenger was caught carrying 40 undeclared iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max smartphones at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi, Kenya. The devices were valued at about KSh 8.2 million, according to the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).
The passenger had arrived from Dubai when customs officers stopped him during checks. KRA said the man had entered Kenya four times within nine days, prompting officers to examine his luggage more closely.
During questioning, the passenger reportedly told officials that the phones belonged to a client in Dubai and that he was carrying them as a courier. The devices had not been declared to customs as required.
KRA said the phones were detected during luggage screening at the airport. The authority used the incident to warn travellers against carrying undeclared goods for other people.
Kenyan customs rules require passengers to declare goods that may be subject to duties or other import requirements. Failure to properly declare such items can result in penalties and seizure of the goods.
KRA has not disclosed the passenger’s nationality or provided further details about possible charges following the interception.
