The Punjab government has imposed Section 144 across the province from October 6 to October 15, 2026, restricting public gatherings for 10 days. The decision was announced by the provincial Home Department following reports of possible security threats.
Under the order, gatherings of five or more people are prohibited in public places, streets, roads and open spaces. Rallies, processions, demonstrations, public meetings and sit-ins are also covered by the restrictions.
According to the Home Department, the measures aim to protect public safety and maintain law and order. Security agencies have warned of possible threats to crowded places, raising concerns that large gatherings could become targets for attacks.
The order also prohibits carrying or displaying weapons in public places and encouraging people to take part in unlawful assemblies.
However, certain activities are exempt from the restrictions. These include wedding ceremonies, funeral prayers, burial gatherings and prayers at mosques, churches and other places of worship. Courts, government offices and officially approved events are also exempt.
