Italy has announced a new round of fully funded scholarships for Pakistani students for the 2026–27 academic year, offering generous financial assistance and access to top Italian universities. The scholarships are being offered under the MAECI Scholarship Programme, run by Italy’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
The initiative aims to strengthen academic ties between Italy and Pakistan while promoting higher education, research collaboration, and the study of Italian language and culture. Pakistani students will be able to pursue Master’s degrees, PhD programmes, and research opportunities at renowned public universities across Italy.
Financial Coverage
The scholarship provides comprehensive financial support to selected candidates. Successful applicants will receive a monthly stipend of €900, which is intended to cover living expenses such as accommodation, food, and transportation. In addition, students will benefit from full or partial exemption from tuition and enrolment fees at public universities, along with health and accident insurance for the duration of the scholarship period.
Depending on the academic programme, scholarships may be awarded for three, six, or nine months, with the possibility of renewal for longer degree programmes, subject to academic performance.
Eligibility Criteria
Pakistani students applying for the scholarship must meet specific eligibility requirements. Applicants for Master’s programmes must generally be under 28 years of age and hold a relevant bachelor’s degree. PhD candidates are typically required to be under 30 years of age, possess a master’s degree, and secure an admission or acceptance letter from an Italian university. Research applicants should usually be under 40 years of age.
Applicants must also demonstrate proficiency in English or Italian, depending on the language of instruction of their chosen programme.
Application Process
Applications must be submitted online through the official Study in Italy portal. Candidates are required to complete an application form and upload supporting documents, including academic transcripts, a valid passport, curriculum vitae, motivation letter, and language proficiency certificates. PhD and research applicants must also submit a research proposal and proof of academic affiliation.
Deadline and Impact
The application deadline for the 2026–27 academic year is expected to fall in mid-June 2026. Education experts believe the programme will attract a strong response from Pakistani students due to its fully funded nature and the growing global recognition of Italian universities.
The announcement has been widely welcomed as a major opportunity for Pakistani students to gain international exposure, high-quality education, and research experience in Europe, while easing the financial burden of studying abroad.
