The federal government has issued a notification to deploy Pakistan Army troops in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) to help maintain law and order and protect public property. The decision was announced on October 11, 2026, following the imposition of emergency rule in the province.
According to the Ministry of Interior, the deployment has been approved under Article 245 of Pakistan’s Constitution. The army will assist the civil administration in maintaining security and protecting citizens, government buildings and other important installations.
The notification states that the deployment will remain in place for the duration of the emergency. The governor of KP, in consultation with the Military Operations Directorate at General Headquarters (GHQ), will decide how many troops and resources are needed.
The move came after President Asif Ali Zardari approved emergency measures and governor’s rule on the federal cabinet’s recommendation. The federal government cited worsening security conditions and concerns about cooperation in counterterrorism efforts.
The decision has added to political tensions, with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) opposing the emergency measures. The situation remains sensitive as authorities move to implement the new security arrangements.
