Russia and Pakistan have agreed to construct the Pakistan Stream gas pipeline, according to Russia’s energy ministry.
Shafqat Ali Khan, Pakistan’s Ambassador to the Russian Federation, and Nikolai Shulginov, the Russian Federation’s Minister of Energy, signed the Protocol to the Inter-Governmental Agreement (IGA) in Moscow.
The North-South Pipeline, a 1,100-kilometer project, will transport 12.4 billion cubic meters of natural gas each year. To avoid US sanctions on Russian firms, the project’s name and partnership structure were altered to ‘Pakistan Stream.’
It is a landmark Pakistan-Russian energy project that would strengthen bilateral collaboration in the hydrocarbon sector between the two nations while also providing significant technology advancements and job possibilities for Pakistani businesses.
According to the ministry, both countries’ enterprises will soon begin to implement the project, contributing to Pakistan’s energy security.
