Pakistan has moved closer to launching 5G services after the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) issued 5G licenses to major telecom companies, including Jazz, Zong, and Ufone. This development marks an important milestone for the country’s digital future and mobile connectivity.
The official licensing ceremony was held at the Prime Minister’s House and attended by Federal IT Minister Shiza Fatima Khawaja, PTA Chairman Hafeez Ur Rehman, and senior executives from the telecom industry.
During the event, representatives of the telecom companies formally received their licenses after completing required legal and financial steps.
As part of the process, the operators submitted bank guarantees to meet licensing conditions set by the PTA. The licenses were officially signed by PTA authorities, confirming that the companies are now authorized to move forward with preparations for 5G services.
This progress follows a recent 5G spectrum auction that generated around $510 million for the government. The auction is seen as a key step in strengthening Pakistan’s telecom infrastructure and supporting future digital growth.
According to officials, 5G services are expected to be launched first in major cities. At the same time, improvements in existing 4G networks will also continue, helping users experience better speed and connectivity across the country.
Experts believe that the introduction of 5G will significantly improve internet performance, support new digital services, and benefit businesses, education, and everyday users. It is also expected to help Pakistan keep pace with global technological advancements.
