More than 200 volunteers took part in a large cleanup campaign at Rawal Dam, collecting nearly two tonnes of solid waste from the banks of the reservoir. The activity was held to help protect the environment and keep one of Islamabad’s most important water sources clean.
The cleanup drive was organized by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and the Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) in partnership with Jazz World. The campaign brought together volunteers from different backgrounds who worked side by side to remove litter and raise awareness about proper waste disposal.
During the campaign, volunteers collected around 80 bags of garbage, including plastic bottles, wrappers, cans, and other waste that had been left around the dam. Their efforts helped improve the cleanliness of the area and reduce pollution that can affect water quality and local wildlife.
Officials praised the volunteers for their dedication and said public participation is essential for protecting natural resources. They encouraged people to avoid littering and dispose of waste responsibly to help keep public places clean.
The authorities also shared details of ongoing environmental projects aimed at protecting Rawal Dam. These include plans to develop a sewage treatment plant, which is expected to reduce pollution entering the reservoir and improve water quality over the long term.
The cleanup campaign reflects a shared commitment by government organizations, private partners, and community members to protect the environment. Officials hope that similar initiatives will continue to inspire more people to take part in environmental conservation efforts.
