Saudi Aramco has reduced the price of hi-octane petrol at its pumps in Pakistan, bringing it down from around Rs610 per litre to nearly Rs410 per litre. This change comes at a time when fuel prices remain a major concern for consumers across the country.
The reduction follows recent government decisions to keep regular petrol prices unchanged while increasing the levy on hi-octane fuel. This had caused prices of premium petrol to rise sharply at many stations, making it expensive for drivers who rely on high-quality fuel.
Hi-octane petrol is commonly used in modern vehicles, especially those with turbocharged or high-compression engines. It helps improve engine performance and fuel efficiency and reduces knocking, which can damage engines over time. Because of this, many car owners prefer it despite its higher cost.
The price cut by Saudi Aramco is expected to provide relief to such drivers and may encourage more people to shift toward premium fuel. Industry experts believe that lower prices could increase demand for hi-octane petrol in Pakistan’s urban areas, where modern vehicles are more common.
Consumers are likely to benefit in the short term, while the long-term impact will depend on future pricing strategies and global oil market trends.
