Several countries, including Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, and Japan, along with six others, have strongly condemned the killing of United Nations peacekeepers in Lebanon. They also called for an urgent end to the ongoing violence in the region.
In a joint statement, these countries expressed serious concern over the worsening humanitarian situation. They highlighted the growing number of people being forced to leave their homes due to the conflict. However, the statement did not directly blame either Israel or Hezbollah for the recent incidents.
The statement came after the deaths of three Indonesian peacekeepers last month. According to the United Nations, early findings suggest that one peacekeeper was killed by a tank shell fired by Israeli forces. The other two reportedly died due to an improvised explosive device, which was likely planted by Hezbollah.
Tensions in the region increased after Hezbollah launched missiles toward Israel on March 2. In response, Israel carried out heavy airstrikes and expanded its military operations. These actions later turned into a broader ground offensive in southern Lebanon.
As the conflict continued, many civilians were forced to flee their homes. According to Lebanese authorities, the violence has caused over 2,000 deaths and displaced around 1.2 million people so far.
The situation remains serious, with international calls growing for a ceasefire and urgent humanitarian support.
