Pakistan may soon see some relief in fuel prices after the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, an important global oil shipping route. Officials believe that the restoration of this route will help improve the supply of oil and reduce pressure on fuel costs.
Energy Minister Musadik Malik said that the development is linked to a ceasefire in Lebanon, which has helped restore trade routes and allowed energy supplies to move more freely. This has created a more stable environment for global oil transportation.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also confirmed that the passage is now fully operational. He stated that the reopening is connected to a temporary truce between Iran and the United States, which has reduced tensions in the region.
Experts say that the reopening of this key route could help stabilize global oil supplies. As a result, countries like Pakistan may benefit from lower petrol prices in the coming weeks.
It may also support better electricity generation, as Pakistan relies on imported liquefied natural gas (LNG) for power production.
Improved energy supply could reduce load on the power sector and provide some relief to consumers facing high electricity costs. In addition, uninterrupted maritime trade through the Strait of Hormuz is expected to support economic activity in the region.
