The Punjab Traffic Police have introduced a new enforcement measure under which motorcyclists found riding without properly functioning indicators will be fined Rs. 2,000. The decision is part of a broader effort to strengthen road safety regulations and reduce preventable traffic accidents across the province.
According to traffic officials, faulty or missing indicators significantly increase the risk of collisions on busy roads, as they prevent clear communication between riders and other motorists. They noted that many accidents occur due to sudden turns or lane changes made without proper signalling, making functional indicators an essential safety requirement rather than a minor technical detail.
Authorities further highlighted that repairing or replacing motorcycle indicators is generally inexpensive and easily accessible, and therefore riders are strongly advised to ensure their vehicles are properly maintained. They stressed that such small precautions can play a crucial role in preventing serious injuries and saving lives.
In addition to this new penalty, traffic regulations regarding helmet use and overall vehicle fitness continue to remain strictly mandatory. The Punjab Traffic Police have reiterated that helmets are essential for rider protection, while poorly maintained vehicles are more likely to contribute to road hazards.
Officials also confirmed that enforcement efforts will be intensified across the province, with increased monitoring and stricter action against violations. The aim of these measures is to improve discipline on the roads, reduce the number of accidents, and ensure a safer commuting environment for all road users.
