‘On Pakistan’s Request’, Trump Pauses Effort to Escort Ships in Strait of Hormuz, Citing Deal Progress

Former US President Donald Trump has announced a temporary halt to “Project Freedom,” a US operation that was escorting ships through the Strait of Hormuz. The decision comes as there are signs of possible progress toward an agreement with Iran.

The operation was launched during a period of rising tensions in the region, which had disrupted global oil supply and created uncertainty in energy markets. Although the naval presence helped secure shipping routes, it also highlighted the seriousness of the situation.

According to US officials, the main objectives of the mission have largely been achieved. However, they made it clear that the pause is only temporary and does not mean the situation has been fully resolved. Military forces remain alert as tensions in the region are still present.

The decision to pause the operation is being seen as a step to support ongoing diplomatic efforts. By reducing military activity, the US hopes to create space for dialogue and reduce pressure in the region.

Following the announcement, global oil markets reacted quickly. Oil prices dropped to below $100 per barrel, reflecting a slight easing of concerns about supply disruptions.

So far, Iran has not given an official response to the development. Uncertainty continues around the situation, especially regarding the stability of the region and the possibility of a lasting ceasefire.
