Iran’s semi-official Mehr news agency has reported that a commercial vessel flying the Iranian flag was allegedly targeted in a strike attributed to the US Navy, leaving several crew members injured and others missing. According to the report, the incident took place in waters near the strategically important Strait of Hormuz and the Makran Sea region close to Oman.
The agency stated that the cargo vessel was operating near Minab County when it was reportedly struck, causing a major fire to erupt onboard. Initial details suggest that the ship had a total of 15 crew members at the time of the incident. Emergency and rescue teams were reportedly sent to the area following the attack and the outbreak of the fire.
According to the report, at least 10 sailors sustained injuries and were shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Meanwhile, five additional crew members were reported missing, with search and rescue operations continuing in nearby waters as authorities work to locate them.
The incident has attracted significant attention due to the sensitivity of the region, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz, which is considered one of the world’s most important maritime routes for global oil shipments and international trade. No independent confirmation of the reported strike or casualty figures was immediately available, and there has been no official response from US authorities regarding the claims so far.
