Pakistan’s National Assembly has officially become the country’s first AI-enabled legislative institution after the launch of the AI Parliament module and the AI-powered Speaker’s Office at Parliament House. The new digital initiatives were inaugurated by Sardar Ayaz Sadiq as part of broader efforts to modernize parliamentary operations and improve governance through technology.
The advanced system was developed by the National Information Technology Board and is designed to introduce artificial intelligence, secure digital infrastructure, and paperless workflows into the functioning of Parliament. Officials said the initiative would help improve efficiency, streamline administrative tasks, enhance record management, and support faster decision-making processes within the National Assembly.
During the launch ceremony, Shaza Fatima Khawaja stated that the move aligns with the digital transformation vision introduced by Shehbaz Sharif. She noted that the government has been encouraging ministries and public institutions across the country to adopt modern digital systems and transition toward paperless governance in order to improve transparency, efficiency, and public service delivery.
She further explained that the National Assembly had already taken significant steps through the successful implementation of the e-Office system, which digitized several internal processes and reduced dependence on physical paperwork. According to her, the introduction of AI-powered tools marks the next phase of Parliament’s technological evolution and reflects Pakistan’s growing focus on innovation within state institutions.
Officials also highlighted that the initiative supports environmental sustainability by reducing paper consumption and promoting greener operational practices within Parliament House. In addition to artificial intelligence integration, the Assembly is also pursuing broader sustainability measures, including energy-efficient systems and environmentally friendly solutions aimed at creating a more modern and eco-conscious parliamentary environment.
