Sanitation workers employed under the Punjab government’s Suthra Punjab program staged a protest outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Nankana Sahib over the non-payment of salaries that have reportedly been delayed for several months.
A large number of workers, including female sanitary staff and field supervisors, gathered at the site carrying cleaning equipment and placards as they demanded the immediate release of their pending wages. According to the protesters, some employees have not been paid for nearly four months, while others said they were still waiting for salaries delayed by at least two months.
The workers said the continued delays had created serious financial hardships for their families, especially with Eid approaching and daily expenses increasing. Many protesters explained that they were struggling to manage household bills, rent, utility payments, and basic necessities due to the lack of income.
During the demonstration, the sanitation staff appealed directly to the Deputy Commissioner and other concerned authorities to intervene urgently and ensure their salaries are paid without further delay. They stressed that despite continuing to perform their duties in difficult conditions, they had been left waiting for their rightful wages.
The protest remained peaceful throughout, with workers voicing their concerns and calling for justice before eventually dispersing after submitting their demands to the administration.
