Pakistan, China Likely to Sign Over 100 MoUs Worth $5 Billion During PM’s Visit

Pakistan and China are expected to sign more than 100 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) worth around US$5 billion during Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s official visit to China from May 24 to May 26. The agreements are seen as a major step in strengthening economic cooperation between the two countries.

Officials say most of these agreements will be business-to-business partnerships, while a smaller number will involve direct government-level cooperation. The focus is on expanding trade, investment, and industrial collaboration.

The planned deals cover a wide range of sectors, including agriculture, food processing, dairy production, fisheries, logistics, information technology, fintech, e-commerce, cloud computing, telecommunications, and advanced manufacturing. Projects related to electric vehicles and electronics components are also part of the proposed cooperation.

Leaders from both countries are expected to discuss ways to improve investment flows and strengthen long-term economic ties.

Regional issues and broader cooperation will also be part of the high-level meetings. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is scheduled to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang during the visit.

To ensure smooth implementation of the agreements, a special coordination committee has been formed. This body will help monitor progress and support the execution of projects after the MoUs are signed.

Officials believe the visit will help deepen Pakistan-China economic relations and open new opportunities for trade and industrial development. The agreements are also expected to encourage private sector participation and bring new investment into key sectors of Pakistan’s economy.
