Karachi’s Biggest Cattle Market 80% Empty After 250,000 Record Sales

Karachi’s Awam Dost cattle market is experiencing an overwhelming rush ahead of Eid ul Adha, as thousands of buyers continue visiting the market daily to purchase sacrificial animals for Qurbani. Traders and organizers have revealed that nearly 80 percent of the animals brought to the market have already been sold, reflecting exceptionally high demand and strong public interest this season.

The bustling market at the Northern Bypass has become one of the city’s busiest commercial hubs in the lead-up to Eid, with families arriving from different areas of Karachi to select animals well before the festival. A large variety of cows, bulls, goats, sheep, and camels are available, attracting buyers with different budgets and preferences. Many customers are finalizing purchases immediately due to concerns that prices and demand may continue rising in the coming days.

Livestock traders say the pace of sales this year has been faster than expected, with premium animals receiving particularly strong attention. The vibrant atmosphere, crowded walkways, and continuous trading activity highlight the growing excitement surrounding Eid ul Adha preparations across the city.

The rapid movement of animals and increasing number of visitors have also boosted economic activity around the market, benefiting transporters, fodder sellers, food vendors, and temporary workers associated with the seasonal livestock business. Officials and traders believe the strong buying trend reflects both festive enthusiasm and the importance of Qurbani traditions for families preparing to celebrate Eid across Karachi.
