An Air India pilot has been taken off flying duties after one of the airline’s flights from Delhi to Amritsar briefly entered Pakistani airspace while approaching its destination. According to reports, the aircraft was instructed to circle near Amritsar Airport because of an ongoing runway inspection, during which it inadvertently crossed the international border before returning to Indian airspace.
Air India confirmed that the airspace violation took place and stated that the incident has been reported to the relevant aviation authorities in accordance with established procedures. The airline has also launched a detailed internal investigation to determine how the aircraft entered restricted airspace and whether standard operating procedures were followed throughout the approach.
The flight landed safely in Amritsar without any impact on passengers or crew. Meanwhile, aviation regulators have also initiated action against an air traffic controller over the handling of the situation and the reporting of the incident. Authorities are continuing their investigation to establish the sequence of events and identify any procedural lapses to help prevent similar occurrences in the future.
