Iran has announced a nationwide public holiday on July 6 as the country prepares for the final funeral ceremonies of former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. The decision was made to allow people to take part in the ceremonies and return home safely after attending the events.
Government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani said the public holiday is intended to help mourners travel more easily during the funeral period. A national day of mourning will also be observed across the country as people gather to pay their final respects.
According to the announced schedule, funeral prayers and memorial events will take place from July 4 to July 8 in the cities of Tehran, Qom, and Mashhad. Thousands of people are expected to attend the ceremonies, with security and logistical arrangements being made to manage the large crowds.
In addition to the events in Iran, condolence gatherings are also expected in several Iraqi cities, including Baghdad, Karbala, Najaf, and Kazmain. People in these cities are expected to join memorial events and offer prayers.
The funeral ceremonies are expected to be among the largest public gatherings in the region. Authorities have encouraged people attending the events to follow official instructions and cooperate with security personnel to ensure the ceremonies are held peacefully and safely.
The nationwide observances reflect the importance of the occasion and provide an opportunity for mourners to pay their respects during the scheduled days of remembrance.
