Historic Record! More Than 70 Lakh People Travel on Tehran Metro During Imam Khamenei Funeral

According to Iran’s semi-official Tasnim News Agency, more than 7 million passengers traveled on the Tehran Metro between Saturday evening and Sunday morning, setting a new record for the highest number of passengers using the metro in such a short period.

The large increase in passengers came as millions of people traveled across the capital to attend the funeral prayers and burial ceremonies of Ali Khamenei.

To reduce heavy traffic on the roads, authorities encouraged mourners to use public transport instead of private vehicles. Many people followed this advice, leading to record-breaking passenger numbers on the metro system.

To handle the huge crowds, Tehran Metro operated additional trains throughout the day and night. Extra staff were also deployed at major stations to help passengers, manage crowds, and ensure that services continued smoothly.

Officials said these measures helped reduce waiting times and improved the overall travel experience during the busy period.

Iranian authorities stated that the transport plan was successful in moving millions of mourners across Tehran while keeping traffic congestion under control. They said careful planning and coordination between transport and security agencies played an important role in managing one of the largest public gatherings in recent years.

The record number of metro passengers highlights the importance of public transportation during major national events. Officials believe that encouraging people to use public transport helped reduce pressure on roads and made it easier for people to reach the funeral ceremonies safely and efficiently.

The successful operation has been described as one of the largest public transport efforts in Tehran’s history.

Authorities thanked metro staff, emergency services, and passengers for their cooperation, saying their combined efforts helped ensure the smooth movement of millions of people during the significant national event.
