Punjab Announces 4 Acres of Agricultural Land on Rs 100 Annual Lease for Poor Farmers

Punjab government has started a new program called “Apna Khet Apna Rozgar” to support landless families. Under this scheme, 30,000 deserving families will get 4 acres of state-owned agricultural land on a long-term lease. They only have to pay Rs 100 per year for the entire plot.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif oversaw a transparent computerized balloting in Lahore. The process was fair and based on merit. The scheme covers 121,000 acres of cultivable government land. Allotment letters will be issued soon, and families are expected to take possession by July 31.

Each family will also receive financial help of Rs 50,000 per acre (total Rs 200,000) for land preparation, seeds, and other farming needs. The lease is for 20 years and can be extended. A 20% quota has been reserved for women to promote gender equality in farming.

This initiative aims to fight rural poverty, create jobs, and increase agricultural production in Punjab. Many families who had no land before can now grow crops and earn a steady income. Officials say it will strengthen the rural economy and bring unused land into productive use.

The program started receiving applications in April 2026 and processed thousands quickly.
