The Punjab government has launched a major environmental campaign for 2026 with a goal of planting 31 million saplings across the province. The initiative aims to increase green spaces, improve the environment, and help reduce the effects of climate change.
As part of the plan, the government will restore forests on more than 7,000 acres of land in southern Punjab. Officials have allocated Rs. 8 billion for afforestation projects to support tree planting, forest restoration, and long-term environmental protection.
Under the “Plant for Punjab” campaign, authorities plan to develop 350 urban mini forests and establish 200 public parks in different parts of the province. The campaign also includes expanding forests in Murree, Kotli Sattian, Kahuta, Kallar Syedan, Attock, Chakwal, and Jhelum to improve biodiversity and protect natural habitats.
To improve forest management, the government will introduce a Digital Forest Inventory System. This system will help monitor forest resources, track tree growth, and support better planning for conservation projects.
A dedicated forest protection force will also be formed to safeguard forests, prevent illegal tree cutting, and protect newly planted areas. Officials say the initiative is designed to improve air quality, increase green cover, and create a healthier environment for future generations.
They believe the project will also help reduce soil erosion, support wildlife, and strengthen the province’s ability to deal with climate-related challenges.
The Punjab government says environmental protection remains one of its key priorities. Through large-scale tree plantation, better forest management, and stronger conservation measures, the province aims to build a greener and more sustainable future.
Authorities have also encouraged citizens to take part in the campaign by planting trees and supporting efforts to protect the environment.
