New Portugal Coach Confirms Cristiano Ronaldo Will Stay in National Team as Long as He is Available

Portugal’s newly appointed head coach, Jorge Jesus, has made it clear that Cristiano Ronaldo will continue to have a place in the national team as long as he remains fit, available for selection, and continues to perform at the level expected.

The experienced manager stressed that decisions regarding Ronaldo’s future will be based on merit, adding that the legendary forward’s contribution to Portuguese football is unmatched.

Jesus described the five-time Ballon d’Or winner as one of the greatest symbols of Portugal’s football history, insisting that Ronaldo has never been, and will never be, a problem within the squad.

He also revealed that he plans to hold a detailed conversation with the veteran striker about his international future in the coming weeks.

Although Ronaldo faced criticism during Portugal’s 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign, the new coach believes his experience, leadership, and winning mentality remain valuable assets for the national side.

With Jorge Jesus now preparing to guide Portugal into a new era, including the road to the 2030 FIFA World Cup, Ronaldo is expected to remain an important figure as long as his performances justify his place in the team.
