Pakistani travellers faced significant challenges in obtaining short-term visas during 2025, as a large number of applications to the United Kingdom and Schengen countries were refused.
The figures highlight the difficulties many applicants experienced while planning travel for tourism, business, family visits, and other purposes. According to available data, the United Kingdom rejected around 72,000 visa applications from Pakistani citizens.
At the same time, Schengen countries collectively refused 40,199 applications. The reported rejection rates were approximately 44% for UK visas and 46% for Schengen visas.
The high number of refusals also resulted in a considerable financial loss for applicants. It is estimated that Pakistani travellers lost around €14.35 million, equal to approximately Rs. 4.56 billion, in non-refundable visa application fees. These fees are generally not returned, even when a visa application is unsuccessful.
Many applicants spend additional money on travel documents, supporting paperwork, translations, appointments, and other requirements before submitting their applications. As a result, a visa refusal can create both financial and emotional difficulties for individuals and families.
The figures have drawn attention to the challenges Pakistani travellers continue to face when applying for short-term visas to Europe and the United Kingdom. Travel experts advise applicants to carefully prepare their documents, provide complete and accurate information, and ensure they meet all visa requirements before applying.
Despite the high refusal rates, many Pakistanis continue to apply for visas each year for education, tourism, business, and family visits. Immigration consultants encourage applicants to understand the eligibility criteria and submit strong supporting documents to improve their chances of approval.
The latest statistics highlight the importance of careful planning and thorough preparation for anyone seeking a short-term visa to the UK or Schengen countries.
