The Punjab government has imposed Section 144 across the province for five days following reported security threats from terrorist groups and hostile intelligence agencies.
Under the restrictions, rallies, protests, sit-ins, processions and demonstrations have been prohibited across Punjab. Public gatherings involving five or more people are also not allowed during the period covered by the order.
The government has further banned the carrying, display and brandishing of weapons in public places as part of the security measures.
However, the restrictions include exemptions for religious prayers, funerals, marriages and official duties. Other gatherings or events will require prior approval from the relevant deputy commissioner.
The provincial administration has directed authorities to ensure implementation of the order across their respective areas.
The temporary restrictions have been introduced as a precautionary measure amid concerns over possible security incidents. Law enforcement agencies are expected to maintain vigilance during the five-day period and monitor public activities across the province.
Citizens have been advised to follow the restrictions and obtain the required permission before organising any event that falls outside the exempted categories.
The imposition of Section 144 is aimed at limiting large gatherings and preventing activities that could create security risks during the period of heightened concern.
