LESCO Senior Officers Pay Electricity Bills for the First Time in 30 Years

The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has ended a long-standing perk for its senior officers. For the first time in nearly 30 years, officers in Grades 18 to 20 will now pay their full electricity bills. Previously, they received thousands of free units every year.

This change is part of broader efforts to cut costs and reform the power sector. The government is working to reduce unnecessary expenses in power distribution companies. LESCO’s decision shows a step toward fairness and better financial management.

While LESCO has removed the free units facility, some other power companies (DISCOs) still provide it under court stay orders. LESCO officers have asked the Ministry of Energy to make a uniform policy for all companies across Pakistan. They want equal rules everywhere.

The move has received mixed reactions. Some people welcome it as a positive reform that treats everyone equally. Others understand that senior staff work hard but agree that free benefits should be reviewed in tough economic times.
