A government officer has been fined Rs. 500,000 by the Federal Ombudsperson for Protection Against Harassment after being found guilty of repeatedly harassing a female colleague.
According to the decision, the officer made offensive and disrespectful comments about the woman on several occasions.
He compared her to a transgender person in a mocking way and also made hurtful remarks about the fact that she did not have children. The Ombudsperson ruled that these comments were based on gender and were intentionally made to insult, embarrass, and humiliate the complainant.
The case highlighted that harassment is not limited to physical actions. Repeated verbal abuse, insulting language, and comments that target a person’s gender or personal circumstances can also create a hostile and unsafe work environment. Such behavior affects an employee’s dignity, confidence, and ability to work comfortably.
As a result, the officer was ordered to pay a fine of Rs. 500,000. The ruling sends a clear message that disrespectful and discriminatory behavior in the workplace will not be tolerated. It also reminds employees and employers that everyone deserves to be treated with respect, regardless of their gender or personal life.
The Federal Ombudsperson emphasized the importance of maintaining a professional and respectful workplace where all employees feel safe and valued. Public institutions are expected to ensure that harassment complaints are taken seriously and handled fairly.
The decision is being seen as an important step toward promoting workplace dignity, accountability, and equal treatment.
It encourages victims of workplace harassment to report inappropriate behavior and reinforces that those found guilty can face legal and financial consequences for their actions.
