India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) received heavy criticism after posting a video from Pakistan’s Gilgit-Baltistan on social media. The party used the footage to show India’s development progress, with text saying “This is the new India.”
The video actually showed Pakistan’s Baltistan Highway, a 167-kilometre road through the Karakoram mountains. It was originally made by Pakistani content creator “Northern Vibes”. Social media users and fact-checkers, including Mohammed Zubair, quickly pointed out the mistake. Many accused the BJP of spreading misinformation.
Northern Vibes also reacted and questioned why a Pakistani highway was shown as Indian infrastructure. The issue raised concerns about copyright and the use of content without permission. As the backlash grew, the BJP removed the video from its official account.
The controversy happened while people were discussing India’s real roads and infrastructure improvements. Critics called it misleading propaganda. Some BJP supporters said the area is shown as Indian on official maps, but this did not stop the criticism.
