Abdullah Shafique produced a brilliant unbeaten 160 in the second Test against the West Indies in Trinidad. This became the highest Test score by a Pakistani batter in the Caribbean since Majid Khan’s 167 in 1977.
The young opener faced 323 balls and hit 15 fours and three sixes. His long innings helped Pakistan reach 387 and take a 43-run first-innings lead. Shafique stayed not out till the end of the innings.
He became only the fifth Pakistani to score 150 or more in a Test in the West Indies. The others are Hanif Mohammad (337), Wazir Mohammad (189), Majid Khan (167), and Saeed Ahmed (150).
Shafique showed great patience and concentration during his seven-and-a-half-hour knock. He also shared a useful partnership with Sajid Khan. This performance further proved his value as one of Pakistan’s most reliable Test batters.
Pakistan later brought the West Indies down to 103 for 6 in their second innings, putting them in a strong position to level the series.
